Becoming A Private Duty Nurse Assistant

By admin | February 7, 2011

Many people who have been trained to be a nursing assistant will often switch the type of jobs that they work in. Rather than working in a hospital they will choose to get a job as a home health aide or a private duty nursing assistant. While they will not work specifically for a hospital they still might work in one as well as nursing homes or other long term care facilities or in someone’s home.

In order to become a private duty nursing assistant you must have the proper schooling available to you. Complete a course as a nursing assistant at your local community college. Make sure that it will teach you how to take vitals, how to write and read a chart, and the necessary medical terminology. Most people will have to take the CNA course to get more education.

Once this is completed you must be certified by the state board in your area. The whole thing could last a few weeks or a few months. It all depends on who you are studying through and how well you are catching on to everything.

The next thing that you will need to do is get some much needed experience in the nursing field. Get an understanding of how to perform the necessary tasks at your local hospital or other health care facility. Make sure you pay attention to how the patients react. You need to have a good bedside manner with them. After a year or two you will have enough experience to become private.
